Option 3: Install the Hawkeye 907 on the load side

The microprocessor based Hawkeye 907 provides a unique solution to the need for monitoring the status of variable frequency drives. Unlike standard digital current switches, the 907 "learns" the system amperage curve by storing the sensed values for normal operation at various frequency levels (40 Hz, 50 Hz, 60 Hz, etc.). This feature allows the 907 to distinguish between a reduced amp draw due to normal changes in the frequency and abnormal amperage drop due to belt loss or other mechanical failure. The 907 requires no set-up or calibration in most installations, saving the installer significant time and money.

Typical Hawkeye 907 installation:

Installation instructions:

  1. Disconnect power from the inverter to the motor
  2. Clip the Hawkeye 907 around one leg of the conductor between the inverter and the motor (no additional mounting is required)
  3. Connect the output terminals of the 907 to a digital (binary) input on the automation panel
  4. Start the motor and briefly press the switch on the front panel of the 907
  5. Verify proper operation of the 907 (see installation instructions for details)

Applications are suggestions. Field applications vary; since manufacturer does not install the devices, it is up to the installer to ensure suitability and compliance to appropriate codes.
